Every winter Queenstown transforms into a magical winter holiday destination. You will be spoilt for choice with 4 ski fields in the area (Coronet Peak, The Remarkables, Cardrona Alpine Resort and Treble Cone). Ski season generally starts in June and runs until early October. The peak time for skiers are usually the months of July and August.

Experience the fun of groomed ski field runs, the thrills of helicopter skiing or adventure into off piste backcountry ski-ing. Beginners can choose from a comprehensive selection of learn to ski packages which will get you out on the slopes in no time. Access to all ski fields is by road and we can help you with rental car options or luxury door to door ski field transfers.

By evening Queenstown transforms into a fantastic aprés ski destination.  World class restaurants offer everything from gourmet cuisines and asian fusion, through to hearty steaks and simple bar meals. There is also a wealth of great bars here, with some real gems tucked away in the back streets. Here you will discover local Central Otago wines and extensive whiskey menus. The only difficulty will be in choosing where to go tomorrow! Ski Accommodation Queenstown FAQs

Can you stay on the ski fields in Queenstown?
Neither Coronet Peak or The Remarkables ski resorts provide accommodation on the mountain. Access roads to both are best driven in daylight hours.  There is also too much fun to be had in the downtown restaurant and aprés ski bar scene of Queenstown. Most people choose to stay either in a hotel or motel in Queenstown or rent a holiday home or apartment. This is a particularly good choice for families and groups of friends travelling together.

What is the best month to book a Queenstown Ski Holiday?
In our opinion the best month for skiing is August which is when the snow is usually at its peak. The mountains have had time to get a good covering and most (if not all) ski runs and jump parks will be fully open. However for those with kids who are school aged then the July school holidays are also a great time to experience Queenstown. Just be aware that it is worth booking well in advance to secure the best accommodation. Get in touch with the MajorDomo team today.

Where do people ski in Queenstown?
Queenstown is lucky enough to have 3 of New Zealand’s best ski fields within easy driving distance. The first is Coronet Peak which overlooks the town (15 mins drive to the access road). Then The Remarkables are a 20-25 min drive to the access road while Cardrona Alpine Resort is over the Crown Range, around 40 mins away.  To avoid the crowds, heli-skiing is a fantastic luxury ski experience for anyone who is intermediate or advanced, and the local Soho Basin (40 minutes drive from Queenstown) delivers a private ski fireld accessed by a snow groomer, with limited capacity each day.

Which is Queenstown’s most luxurious ski resort?
New Zealand ski resorts are not typically aimed at providing the highest levels of luxury. However with some clever planning from our concierge team we can create the most luxurious ski holiday in Queenstown without you having to lift a finger. This includes staying in one of our stylish Queenstown holiday homes or villas, arranging luxury, private airport and ski field transfers, and providing thoughtful holiday extras such as in-home private chef dining and a tailored itinerary of aprés ski activities.
