Kaimata Retreat is a boutique exclusive-use eco-retreat nestled on the hillside overlooking the ever-changing waters of the Papanui Inlet on the Otago Peninsula.

Located on five acres of coastal hillside sloping down to the water’s edge, the Kaimata Retreat lodge has been built with timber harvested from the property and architecturally designed to blend in with the environment. The beautiful honey coloured macrocarpa beams and stone fireplace create a rustic feeling of home that is enhanced by the stunning views of the ever changing waters and wildlife that surrounds you.

Nestled into the hillside overlooking the tidal estuary of Papanui Inlet, the lodge has accommodation for up to 8 people making it the perfect destination for small family or group gatherings, celebrations, or for a romantic getaway! Sit back and relax in the lodge or explore the area and experience any of the fabulous attractions the Otago Peninsula has on offer or take pleasure in returning to the Retreat after a day exploring the Peninsula’s coastal landscape and wildlife.

The interior is divided into two buildings, one side comprising of two stylish studios and a guest laundry, the other with one suite and a large open plan dining, lounge and kitchen area. Each area is named after a visiting native bird, Korimako (Bellbird), Kotare (Kingfisher) and Kahu (Australasian Harrier Hawk). All rooms have a north facing deck with a stunning estuary and garden outlook. The bedrooms are intimately sized, each with a sitting space and ensuite bathroom. All rooms feature under floor heating, walls lined with wool insulation and luggage storage. Bathrooms feature high pressure showers, heated towel rails, mirror demisters, a hairdryer and luxury toiletries.

From the breathtaking views to the stylish design that surrounds you, you can feel the overwhelming sense of peace and tranquility. Relax around the warmth of the fire and let the ambience of this environment surround you, Kaimata Retreat is a true Otago gem.
