Whare Kea Chalet Wanaka

The chalet itself is a simple and well-equipped back-country hut, offering unique mountain accommodation in a remote environment. The accommodation features two double bedrooms and a spacious loft sleeping up to six guests, along with a bunkroom for two staff. The chalet has power, a hot shower, and large windows that frame breathtaking views of Mount Cook and Mount Aspiring with its tumbling glaciers.

What makes Whare Kea Chalet truly special is the experience of being fully immersed in alpine wilderness that few people ever reach. The surrounding landscape changes dramatically with the seasons. Snow blankets the area for around four months of the year, while summer reveals rolling tussock slopes and a fantastic network of hiking routes suitable for a wide range of abilities.

The on-mountain accommodation can be enjoyed by friends, families, and small groups, and each stay is tailored to suit your sense of adventure. Experiences range from a relaxed day visit with lunch and a glass of wine on the balcony, to multi-night stays filled with alpine exploration, or even intimate celebrations such as weddings or special events. All stays include helicopter transfers, a dedicated host, and gourmet dinner and breakfast. Reduced rates are available for additional nights.

Optional experiences are wide-ranging and fully customisable, from guided hiking or hunting trips, to helicopter transfers from Queenstown or Wānaka, scenic flights to Milford Sound or Mount Cook, and more.
