The team at MajorDomo are NZ luxury accommodation experts and we love sharing our knowledge of the wonderful and unique luxury properties that are available throughout New Zealand – in this blog series, we focus on an in-depth look at what to expect when staying at the wonderful Minaret Station:
This very special luxury lodge just outside of Wanaka is only accessible by helicopter, and the perfect choice if you want to escape the modern world for a few days and immerse yourself in nature and tranquillity.
Minaret Station currently has four individual standalone suites and a communal lodge with two living areas and a dining area, all positioned in a beautiful alpine valley. The majesty of the environment is evident as soon as you arrive into the valley via helicopter, and upon disembarking, the sense of tranquillity immediately takes over – this location has a real sense of place which can be hard to describe in words. As a member of Luxury Lodges of New Zealand, this very special accommodation is a great option for anyone looking for a unique lodge or boutique hotel and an authentic ‘Kiwi’ experience.
The guest suites each have grand views, and feel very private in their setting, with a boardwalk footpath separating each suite. Guests can enjoy the private wood-fired hot tub on their balcony, or simply sink into one of the plush armchairs with a good book and glass of wine and soak in the views. Without any TV screens to distract you, the wild location really does take center stage, with the gorgeous golden tussocks glowing in the sun, and the snow-capped peaks of winter casting a crisp silhouette against the sky. Each suite has a pair of binoculars so that you can spot the native wildlife on the surrounding alpine hills, but you certainly won’t spot any signs of civilization from this location!
This luxury lodge is the type of accommodation where you can really take the opportunity to reconnect with yourself, away from the distractions of the modern day world. Take a good book, enjoy a board game, take a solo soak in the hot tub and simply slow down on every aspect of life.
If you are the type who likes to remain active on your break, Minaret Station also has a fantastic array of activities available to guests, with experienced guides on hand to share their knowledge of the land. Backcountry fishing, hiking, biking, hunting, or skiing are a few options on offer, but the list really is endless, making it a great option for those who love a taste of adventure and authentic experiences shared with genuine locals.
The helicopter flights available from Minaret Station’s partner Alpine Helicopters really showcase some of the best of New Zealand too, so it is a great launching pad for some aerial exploration – for those who want to explore one of the most remote corners of the South Island, the Dusky Sound day trip is a really epic option, and the Fiordland Traverse trip is a great option for those who wish to see Milford Sound, but avoid the masses and experience some of the more ‘off the beaten track’ locations around Fiordland National Park and the rugged and wild West Coast.
So if you want to experience one of New Zealand’s most unique accommodations, Minaret Station should definitely be on the shortlist, and with so much on offer there, you might just find yourself going back, again and again, year after year to create more new memories!
