Mt Vernon Villa has been declared the winner in the heritage category of the Te Kāhui Whaihanga New Zealand Institute of Architects Gisborne and Hawke’s Bay Awards.
Built in 1882, this beautiful home was painstakingly restored to its former glory, winning Napier architect Ann Galloway a prize in the process.
“Great care has been taken to ensure that the modernised service spaces don’t just compliment the original building, but enhance the character of the house, and ensure that its story, from construction in 1882 through the Napier earthquake in 1931 and decline through the latter part of last century, is told for another 140 years.”

Mt Vernon Villa is a beautiful luxury holiday home in the Central Hawke’s Bay region that is perfect for large groups of up to twelve guests. The award winning heritage architecture delivers a character home that is a rare addition in the NZ luxury rentals market, and offers a unique accommodation experience for guests. Modern facilities throughout the property ensure your luxury holiday isn’t compromised, but great care and attention has been taken to enhance the original features of the building. With six bedrooms, this unique luxury property is great for corporate groups, extended families, or groups of friends looking for somewhere luxurious to stay for a sunny Hawke’s Bay weekender and the owners of this home have added a swimming pool and tennis court on the grounds so that guests can enjoy resort-like facilities.
It is a great accolade for one of our luxury rental homes to achieve such acknowledgement in this area, and a testament to this beautiful and unique property. There are very few historical properties available to rent as private villas, and we are very lucky that the owners of Mt Vernon Villa choose to share their beautiful home with holiday makers.
