Maruia River Retreat Nelson

Maruia River Retreat is a nature and wellbeing destination on 500 acres of pristine native New Zealand landscape, a 2-hour scenic drive from Nelson or 3 hours from Christchurch. It overlooks the Maruia River and is sheltered by mountain ranges to the east and west, so it’s an ideal place to reconnect and relax away from a busy world.

With just seven luxury villas on the estate, you’ll feel far from the clutter of everyday life. The grounds hold native beech forest, established gardens, terraced paddocks and 11 km of walking trails, plus 1.5 km of river frontage. Resident hosts and a private chef look after guests, and the cuisine draws mostly on the retreat’s own gardens and the best produce of the region.

Wellness is at the heart of a stay. Swim in the 8 metre heated magnesium pool with Endless Swim jets, practise in the yoga shala and wellness centre, or book a skincare or massage treatment at the full spa (advance bookings required). Your stay also includes the use of electric scooters and push bikes around the property. Adventures such as white-water rafting, heli-tours and local wine tours can be arranged.

All seven villas are fully self-contained, with views over the river or gardens and a brand new Italian kitchenette.

Master Villa (2 villas)
A one-bedroom villa with a super king bed or two king singles and a walk-in wardrobe. The ensuite has a spa jacuzzi, a bath and twin vanities. There’s also a large living and dining area and an Italian kitchenette.

Luxe Villa (5 villas)
A studio-style villa with a super king bed or two king singles and a walk-in wardrobe. The ensuite has a shower, a bath and twin vanities. There’s a living and dining area and an Italian full-service kitchenette.
