Here’s some of our favourite picks of family-friendly activities in Queenstown. These can be packed into a day of fun or spread out over a few days.
No trip to Queenstown is complete without a trip up the Skyline Gondola to see the panoramic views of the lake and mountains. Whilst up there, the luge is a great fun activity for all ages.
Kids absolutely love this experience! Children over 110cm tall are able to drive their own carts (if shorter they can ride tandem with an adult). The Stratosphere Restaurant located at the top of the gondola offers the best views of any restaurant in town.
The fun doesn’t have to be over after the luge – another unique activity at the top of the Skyline Gondola is New Zealand’s number 1 original zipline tour – Ziptrek!!
Ziptrek Tours will take you down a series of zip lines as you fly through the tree tops and take in the stunning views over Queenstown and Lake Wakatipu.
You can choose to do either four or six zip lines, with the size of the lines getting larger as you progress. This is also an interesting educational tour with an emphasis on our beautiful natural environment.
After zipping through the trees with Ziptrek, why not wander down to the lakefront and jump on the famous TSS Earnslaw steamship.
The TSS Earnslaw has been cruising Lake Wakatipu for over 100 years!
This leisurely cruise will take you across the lake during which time some may wish to simply soak in the views, while others may like to visit the engine room to watch the stokers shovelling coal into the engines – a real treat for the wee ones in particular!
Once you reach the western shores of Lake Wakatipu, it’s a great opportunity to fill hungry tummies. After disembarking at Walter Peak High Country Farm you can do a Farm Tour with morning or afternoon tea, or opt for the gourmet BBQ buffet lunch option with a farm show. (Dinner option is also available.)
Continuing with the theme of on-water fun, Queenstown is famous for its jet boat adventures and there are plenty of options to choose from!
Whether you’d prefer the thrill ride, the scenic trip into Lord of The Rings country, or a crazy drive down Skippers Canyon, we’re confident there’s a trip for everyone.
