Twelve Months of Queenstown

1st January 2019

We welcome the turning of the new year with our guide to Queenstown holidays – no matter when you plan to visit, Queenstown has something to offer everyone and accommodation in all shapes and sizes.  We can help you plan the best time of year, and choose the perfect private villa, holiday home or luxury lodge for each occasion.

January – New Year, New You!  Get active, get hiking, paddling and exploring in the height of summer and enjoy long daylight hours and (hopefully) plenty of sunshine! Choose one of our rural private villas or holiday houses with beautiful gardens and outdoor spaces, to really make the most of the outdoors!  We recommend Omaio for the ultimate outdoor lifestyle Queenstown holiday.

February – Lunar New Year we welcome many international guests from all over Asia – be sure to book very early to avoid disappointment if you are looking for accommodation or activities for the first two weeks of February.  Our newest luxury villa Ladena is the perfect location, close to Queenstown with spectacular views and the ultimate in modern luxury.

March – Shhh, don’t tell anyone, but March is our favourite month.  The summer weather is still lingering, yet the streets of Queenstown are relaxed and peaceful.  It is the perfect time of year to visit Queenstown, perhaps for a golfing holiday, or a long weekend vacation to enjoy the local wine region.  Our top choice private villa for a Queenstown holiday in March is Braeside, for its beautiful views and great location walking distance to town.

April – Celebrate the turning of the leaves with the Arrowtown Autumn Festival, which celebrates its 35th year in 2019 with an itinerary of events spread over five days.  The beautiful and spacious holiday home Wharenui is just a few minutes drive from Arrowtown, and its rural setting means it is the perfect spot to enjoy the turning of the leaves and the beautiful colours of the landscape.

May – Queenstown has some beautiful restaurants and boutique vineyards, with world class menu choices and flavours. Ignore the changeable weather, and visit our foodies’ paradise of a region – our concierge service is happy to offer local insider knowledge and share the best restaurants, wineries and grocery shops. Stay close to town for easy access in Views on York – a charming private villa just 10 minutes’ walk from Queenstown town centre.

June – Welcome to winter, with the opening of the ski fields and Queenstown Winter Festival.  Get yourself on the mountain and make the most of the 4 world-class ski areas within 90 minutes of Queenstown or Wanaka.  Three Peaks, with its outdoor fireplace and private spa pool, is the perfect holiday home for a ski holiday, located in sight of three beautiful mountains, including Queenstown’s two local ski fields

July – School Holidays are a thriving time in Queenstown, creating a bustling city centre and great atmosphere all around.  Book your ski holiday accommodation early to avoid disappointment, as our villas book out very early at this busy time of year. For the ultimate luxury ski holiday, stay at our private villa Bellbrae, and at the end of a cold day on the slopes, warm yourself in the in-house sauna or the private spa pool.

August – Optimum ski conditions, as the snow starts to build a great base, and temperatures remain cool.  Have you considered heli-skiing or Cat skiing?  Both are indulgent snow experiences giving you free rein of exclusive terrain.  The beautiful Kohatu is the perfect holiday home for a Wanaka winter holiday, with easy access to Cardrona, Treble Cone, and the Cat skiing and heli-skiing operations.

September – Suns out, guns out!  It’s t-shirt skiing weather!  Flit between a day on the slopes and a day out and about as the spring temperatures start to warm up and outdoor activities become much more enjoyable.  Try Treble Cones ski and golf package, with some early morning, turns on the ski field, a heli-transfer to the golf course, and 18 holes to finish the day.   We recommend Mahu Whenua Luxury Lodge as the ultimate in luxury accommodation for your September ski holiday – there’s nothing more relaxing than letting someone else do the cooking!

October – Spring brings flowers and beautiful scenes as the snow-capped mountains set the backdrop to the emerging greens and colours of nature.  The streets are peaceful, and the air is fresh – October offers Queenstown holidays at their finest.  Choose a holiday home with easy access to wander around Queenstown – Central Queenstown Views is the perfect private villa, just 10 minutes walk from Queenstown gardens, which is the perfect spot for a morning wander to take in the blossoming flowers.

November – tighten those shoelaces and don’t forget to stretch!  Queenstown Marathon rolls through town mid-November – have you started training yet?  Another busy time for the region, with Queenstown accommodation booking months in advance.  Get in quick! We recommend a holiday home with a spa pool to soak your aching muscles after the race – Pinnacle Villa offers this, plus a beautiful quiet location so you can get a good rest before and after the run.

December – Ho Ho Ho and a happy New Year!  The festive season is normally the most popular time of year for Queenstown; the town is bustling with excitement and very busy so don’t miss out on this very special time of year! Shotover Point is a sunny villa on its own private vineyard, with views over the Shotover River – this gorgeous holiday home is full of character and a beautiful home to celebrate the festive season.
