Queenstown Winter Festival 2019

Thursday 20th June to Sunday 23rd June 2019

This fabulous 4-day event is all about celebrating Queenstown. Whether you are a local, passing through or staying in our beautiful town for a while everyone is invited to join in the fun!

Starting in 1975, this diverse and vibrant festival has grown to become one of the biggest events on the Queenstown calendar each year. The festival is all about celebrating the start of the Winter season by hosting a range of amazing events on our ski field mountains, plus showcasing our picturesque CBD and celebrating everything Queenstown.

With a full 4-day schedule of activities and entertainment, there is sure to be something for everyone within the Real Journeys Queenstown Winter Festival.

The Real Journeys Friday Fireworks has been a definite festival highlight for many over the years, as the whole basin gets beautifully lit up with a stunning array of fireworks, in a very big display that is very rarely seen these days.

For a crazy, unique southern NZ experience we suggest checking out the Monteith’s Dog Derby and Dog Barking events at Cardrona Alpine Resort.  For a fun night out with your partner or friends, the two comedy nights showcase some of New Zealand’s best comedians, and the Sky City Winter Quiz is always a good night out.  For a bit of luxury, book in early to secure tickets to the Sky City secret location ball, or the Gibbston Valley Winery long lunch.

If you are going to be visiting Queenstown with the family, make sure you check out the full timetable as it is packed with family-friendly events and ideas.

Top 3 Tips for enjoying Queenstown Winter Festival

  1. Head into town early for any events you wish to watch or participate in as the town is very busy, and it is often hard to find car parks, meaning you may need to walk.
  1. Dress warmly. This festival is officially celebrating the start of winter and it can be seriously cold. Pack a beanie, gloves, warm socks, layers of merino and a puffer/warm jacket.
  1. Book luxury MajorDomo accommodation within walking distance to town if you wish to join the CBD celebrations. That way you can easily walk into the festivities and not have to worry about traffic and parking.
