Queen’s Birthday Weekend

Friday 31st May to Monday 3rd June 2019

LUMA is the hottest event on the calendar if you are going to be in Queenstown this Queen’s birthday weekend…and the best thing about it is it’s family-friendly and totally FREE.

So what exactly is LUMA? LUMA is a exciting exhibition that brings together local, national and international talent who then use the unique alpine canvas of Queenstown, as a giant amphitheater to paint with light, by night.

In it’s 4th year, this spectacular light festival really is a well polished exhibition. Offering a range of incredible lighting installations, illuminated art, light sculptures and entertainment this is an event not to be missed.

A word of warning though, the night time chill in Queenstown can be cutting, so to make sure you get the most out of this fabulous event, remember to rug up warm. Dig deep in to that winter wardrobe and pull it all out… beanie, merinos, scarf, gloves, boots, warm socks and a puffer jacket. Lots of layers will be your best friend, as the toastier you are, the more you will enjoy this fantastic community event.

While you wander through the stunning installations you can also enjoy a hot drink or mulled wine to help keep you warm, plus you can sample the best of Queenstown cuisine by picking up some delicious hot food from the local food vendors.

Town can get a bit chaotic in the evenings while the exhibition is on, so to minimise carparking and traffic stress we strongly suggest the use of public transport, carpool or walk if you are staying in luxury MajorDomo accommodation nearby.

Running over four consecutive evenings from 5pm-10pm, this award winning cultural event offers an unforgettable experience for families, groups of friends, visitors and locals alike. See your world in a completely different light, and put this unique event in your diary now.
