It's Market Season!
13 November 2017
There’s no better way to immerse yourself in a new town and live like a local than by visiting the local farmers’ market. Here are our favourite local markets which are all set in picturesque, beautiful locations.
Wanaka Artisan Market | Every Thursday 3pm – 6pm | All year round
Held every Thursday afternoon, the Wanaka Artisan market is located under an historic tree alongside Bullock Creek where visitors can enjoy seasonal artisan produce and regional produce. Local delights include arts and crafts, pastries, bread, fabric gifts, hand crafted wooden bowls, local wine, foraged nuts and much much more.
Remarkables Market | Every Saturday 9am – 2pm | 21 October – 14 April
Come along to the Remarkables Red Barn under the stunning Remarkables mountain range to relax, mingle and absorb the market vibes. If you have a bit of spare time, enjoy a coffee and brunch as you wander the stalls of local artisans selling crafts, gifts and delicious local produce.
Live music and a children’s sandpit make this a fantastic spot for the whole family. It’s just down the road from Site Trampoline which could be a great activity to add on if you’re with little ones.
Queenstown Arts and Crafts Market | Every Saturday 9am – 4.30pm | All year round
Every Saturday on the lake front at Earnslaw Park in Central Queenstown, the Creative Queenstown Arts and Crafts Market embraces the talents of many artists and crafters from all over the South Island.
This is the perfect free addition to any day out in Queenstown. Stay a while on the waterfront and enjoy the free live music. If you’re at the market later in the late afternoon, we highly recommend popping into Lodge Bar afterwards for a drink on the waterfront.
Cromwell Farmers’ Market | Every Sunday 9am – 1pm | Labour weekend - Easter weekend
Located in Cromwell’s quaint Heritage Precinct, the Cromwell Farmers’ and Craft Market is hugely popular, not just with the locals, but with visitors too.
The market showcases a wide range of regionally supplied produce and crafts including seasonal fruit and vegetables, local meats and cheeses, fresh fish, artisanal breads and baking, cut flowers, local honey, olive oil, blended teas, pickles, jams, chutneys, vinegars and sauces, local wines, candles and soap. Wow, what a mouthful! Lastly, and certainly not least, food and coffee are also available for purchase as you wander the stalls.
Enjoy the market atmosphere and live entertainment at this gem of a farmers’ market.
Arrowtown Farmers’ Market | Every Sunday 10am - 2pm | 5 Nov – 25 March
In Arrowtown’s Library Green on historical Buckingham Street you’ll find fresh produce, local food and beverages and an interesting range of plants and flowers. We recommend going for a morning walk along the Arrow River morning and then meandering around the market with a takeaway coffee.
With all produce grown or produced locally, and sold by the makers themselves, it’s the perfect way to immerse yourself in Arrowtown life and feel like a local for a day.
