Summer is officially here (hoorah!) and we are taking full advantage! New Zealand is full of sunny spots which are perfect for a holiday or minibreak, and we’ve put together our top 4 sunny summer destinations to give you a little inspiration.
When in doubt, heard North! Up at the top of Northland in the North Island, the Bay of Islands is a fantastic place for a short break – spend time out on the water on a boat exploring the islands and observing the wildlife. If you’re lucky, you might get to meet some of the friendly local bottlenose dolphins out at sea!
We also love Russell, which is a quaint village offering boutique art galleries and some charming coffee shops. Ultra-relaxing and the perfect place to wander on a sunny summer day.
Nelson is one of the sunniest parts of the country, and if you leave the city and head north towards Abel Tasman or Golden Bay you can make the most of the sunny climate with a relaxing day on some the most beautiful beaches in New Zealand.
If you are looking for a summer adventure, why not take advantage of the summer weather and walk some of the Abel Tasman Track, one of New Zealand’s Great Walks, and accessible as a day trip via water transfer.
This tropical paradise is a great getaway spot for summer – long white beaches to relax on make cooling off easy, and the abundance of gorgeous wineries offer al fresco lunch spots galore. Wander amongst the vines, or dine on a terrace overlooking the ocean. One of our favourite wineries for a sunny summer afternoon is Stonyridge, which has a lively sun terrace and restaurant on most days in summer.
Waiheke screams summertime, and whether it’s a daytrip from Auckland or an extended minibreak, you won’t be disappointed.
Hawke’s Bay’s consistent climate and hot summers offer the perfect excuse to take a dip at one of the relatively untouched beaches, dine outdoors on foodie-approved cuisine or cycle from winery to winery sampling world-class vino.
Hawke’s Bay is our top choice for any of our foodie friends looking for inspiration, with gorgeous fresh produce available, and some fantastic dining experiences on offer. Make sure you check out the weekend farmers market if you are in the area for the weekend.
