 Autumn in Queenstown

Visiting Queenstown or Wanaka in March & April

What’s on in Queenstown in March or April?

Autumn days evoke fond memories from the MajorDomo team – warm hues on the trees, cosy crackling fireplaces, crisp mornings to start the day, mild afternoons, peaceful streets which are perfect for a leisurely meander... Whilst summer often takes centre stage, and many flock to the region for a fun winter ski trip, Autumn in Queenstown and Wanaka is often overlooked.

We have put together a few ideas for our favourite things to do in Queenstown or Wanaka in March and April:

Sip Something Special!

Central Otago is full of some gorgeous boutique wineries, all easily accessible from Queenstown and Wanaka.  The region’s climate and soil is perfect for Pinot Noir, but most varieties can be found if you know where to look and the region produces some world-class wines.  Closest to Queensown is the Gibston Valley region, which is home to around 20 vineyards, but notable Bannockburn and Cromwell are only an hours drive from both Queenstown or Wanaka and offer some delightful vineyards and award-winning wines, and Autumn really is one of the best times to pay them a visit.

Golfing the greats

Few places offer golf courses in such beautiful settings, and Queenstown is home to six different courses!  Play a different golf course every day, avoiding the heat of the summer sun.  Our top suggestions for the keen golfer are The Hills, Millbrook and Jacks Point which all offer a fantastic experience.  MajorDomo’s concierge team can help to arrange tee times, golf carts and transfers if you are staying in one of our properties.

Arrowtown Autumn Festival

Live like a Local

Every year the Arrowtown Autumn Festival offers an array of events to celebrate the changing of the seasons.  With art exhibitions, live music, a parade, family activities and the famous ‘pie & pint’ event, this five-day annual festival is a great time to visit the area.  Arrowtown in Autumn is truly special, with the beautiful tree-lined streets and the surrounding hills turning bright autumn colours, it is one of our favourite places to be.  We have a select few luxury villas and holidays homes situated close to Arrowtown and can help you find the best spot to stay to truly engage in this local event.  This year, the festival runs from 23rd-28th April 2019, so be sure to start planning so that you don’t miss out!

Explore by foot

With cooler temperatures, Autumn is the perfect time to enjoy hiking around Central Otago.  Queenstown and Wanaka are home to some of the best New Zealand hiking trails, with lake views, mountain summits, waterfalls, wildlife and swing bridge river crossings… you will not be disappointed!  The Department of Conservation office is a great resource to learn all about the available hikes and find the perfect one for you, but our team are also happy to offer some tips on our favourites.

The team at MajorDomo are accommodation experts and are always excited to share our local insider knowledge with our guests.  Get in touch with our friendly team to start planning your next stay in Queenstown, and we will match you with the perfect luxury lodge, boutique hotelluxury holiday home or private villa.
