Mahu Whenua – “healing the land”

Enjoy total privacy on over 55,000 hectares (550sq km or 200sq miles) of majestic beauty – towering mountains, lush green valleys, native bush, forests and meandering rivers.

Mahu Whenua consists of four adjoining high country sheep stations (Motatapu, Mt Soho, Glencoe and Coronet Peak) which stretch from Wanaka through to Queenstown. Easily accessible, the Ridgeline Homestead at Mahu Whenua is only 20 minutes drive from Wanaka, 60 minutes drive from Queenstown Airport or 10 minutes helicopter transfer from Queenstown Airport.

The Homestead boasts uninterrupted views of Mt Aspiring National Park and Lake Wanaka and has a rustic design with modern features to ensure easy living. A sprawling farmhouse kitchen, large open living room, dining room, library and media and games room provide endless spaces to unwind. Numerous outdoor locations will allow you to simply sit and absorb the view, dine or lounge beside the pool and watch friends and family enjoy croquet or pentaque. The local helipad is perfect for easy transfers or heli-based activities.

Mahu Whenua has two well-appointed Suites inside the Homestead each with a king bed, ensuite and fabulous views of Lake Wanaka and the surrounding mountains. The two self-contained Cottage Suites, located just a short walk from the Homestead and nestled amongst native beech forest, both have a king or king-split bed, ensuite, and overlook the Motatapu River and farm stables. The Homestead is also available on an exclusive-use basis for up to 12 guests (click here for more information about exclusive-use bookings).

Your stay will be fully hosted with dedicated hospitality staff, full housekeeping, exceptional service and contemporary fresh local cuisine. You’ll also enjoy gourmet breakfasts, lunches and dinners prepared by the in-house Chef included in your stay.

What makes Mahu Whenua so very special is its magical story. More than 90% of the land has been protected by covenants ensuring that extensive plant regeneration and native bird breeding programmes shall continue in perpetuity, making it the largest conservation undertaking on private land in New Zealand’s history.

There are endless activities to enjoy on the property including horse trekking, heli-excursions (including heli-skiing in winter), hiking, heated pool, mountain biking, picnics beside alpine rivers, mountain top lunches, 4WD adventures, conservation tours, feeding the native birds and so much more. You can also access Fiordland National Park and Mt Aspiring National Park by a short helicopter ride or go hunting, fishing, skiing or jet boating nearby.

Reservations can be made directly on the Mahu Whenua Website.  If you wish to book for arrival within the next 48 hours, please contact us directly.
